Sir, you play mahjong?

This was the stupid question that I once asked Mr. Morales. In response, he did not answer but proudly presented me his right hand and showed me the two calluses on his fingers. Another stupid question I asked was: Sir, you can feel and distinguish? He did not answer but asked me a question: which two are the most difficult to differentiate? Words, I said. He sternly said: No, Sammy, six and nine bamboo. Expert as he was.

When we visited him in Cebu in 2002, we brought with us a set of mahjong and a table and we had a few hours of good time. Our respectable Principal is not just a historian, but an educator and a gentleman. He did not just teach us in the classroom but he demonstrated to us what a real gentleman should be. Human as he was, he loved his students and he showed us what kind of a person he was. Fatherly as he was, he was a model for us. He shows us what a gentleman is like. Raimondians are not famous for being gentlemen but if at all we are, thanks Mr. Morales of letting us know what a true man is like.

Though I left Raimondi in 1969, I remember his textbook 'East Meets West' (the early edition of 'East Meets West' consisting of Book One and Two or Part One and Two) which imparts a very clear concept on the cause of the First World War. Not many textbook writers can give the readers a clear concept of the same topic. May I salute you Mr. Morales !

Funeral Serives for Mr. Alberto C. Morales are scheduled as follows:

Sept 15, 2011 (Thurs) Wake service will be held at 1/F, Hong Kong Funeral Home (Quarry Bay, MTR   Exit C) in the evening, including a mass at 8 p.m.

Sept 16, 2011 (Fri) Funeral service will be held at 1/F, Hong Kong Funeral Home (Quarry Bay, MTR Exit C) followed by cremation at Cape Collinson Crematorium at 2 p.m.

(Transportation arrangement: Shuttle Bus to depart from Hong Kong Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m.)

As a memorial booklet will be published to honour Mr. A.C. Morales, anyone who wishes to contribute in terms of letters, articles, poems, paintings Chinese calligraphy & etc. please forward them to the following contact persons preferably on or before 9 Sept.

Condolence to Roy and his family . Deep in my heart Mr. Morales will long be remembered. There was an incidence always on my mind when I was still a new Raimondian.( I was admitted in Raimondi in 1966 )

I woke up late and missed a morning session in my Form One Final Examination in 1967 and came face to face with Mr. Morales in his office while the second session is starting. After a short interrogation, Mr. Morales arranged me to sit for the second session in that morning and told me to take the missed-out examination immediately afterwards in his office. I was thus able to be promoted to Form Two. His gracious forgiveness was well tasted at the moment of my greatest fear and will be ever-remembered.

I stayed in the Caritas hostel opposite to the Cathedral in the early eighties. There were no parking space for motorcycles nearby. I met Mr. Morales in the staircase to our school and he helped me to arrange a parking space in the school. The benefit, apart from the convenience of immediate access to my bike , is that I met a lot of our school teachers every morning I went there. it refreshes memories of my school days and revealled the joy and friendliness there.
